2007.05.11 eBox at RAN.org give LA benefit
I was invited by Linda Nicholes to a RAN.org give LA benefit on Friday night hosted by Lawrence Bender, film producer of An Inconvenient Truth. Since it was an environmental (reduce global warming) event it was worthwhile to have a mini-display of plug-in battery EVs as one of the solutions to sustainable living. AC Propulsion graciously loaned an eBox for display at the RAN event.

When driving to Bel Air the 118 freeway was a parking lot. Travel speeds were anywhere from 0-6mph. Driving in slow traffic like this is where EVs shine even brighter! Efficiency increases the slower you go.

Check out all the SCION xBs...soon to be reborn as fabulous eBoxes! eBox holding pen! Great eBox car cover!

A Chinese electric scooter. Orange eBox on charge. Milbank RV power outlet panel.

Great new NEMA 14-50P plug with handle! A "black" trim eBox! Awesome! "Black" exhaust cutout cover. AC Propulsion logo trimmed wheel covers.

Orange eBox display prior to driving off (ignore the whr/mi). Leaving ACP at 1:13PM. Orange eBox has 7786 miles on its odometer. Resetting the A and B trip meters to 0.0 miles.

Another shot of the eBox data. Observe the excellent new rear brake light LED indicator. The brake light LED indicator activates whenever the brake pedal is pushed or when the eBox is decelerating due to regen alerting those behind that the eBox is slowing. Yet another shot of the eBox display waiting for a red light to turn green to enter the 57 freeway.

Arriving at home. eBox data display upon arriving at home. I drove with the "fast" SoCal flow of traffic and with the air conditioning on (amounts to a minor 0.7kwhr per hour). Note higher 303 whr/mi when driven (fast). 52.1 amphours consumed over 58.5 miles. Charging the eBox. Charge complete and ready for RAN.org.
DSCN7602 DSCN7603 DSCN7604 DSCN7605
Data display after charging and prior to driving off. Resetting trip A counter to 0.0 miles. Pix of the eBox in the driveway. A neighbor walked by and was in awe of the fact the eBox is all electric (no emissions, silent, and fast).
DSCN7606 DSCN7607 DSCN7608 DSCN7609
The eBox definitely has style!
DSCN7610 DSCN7611 DSCN7612 DSCN7613
A pic of the data display after having descended a hill just after leaving. Note I traveled almost a mile with only 0.1 amphour consumed. The power of regen! Crazy traffic on the 118 around 5PM. Seriously insane traffic. I was traveling anywhere from 0-6mph all the way to the 405. Gasoline semi.

Note the low 173whr/mi when traveling more slowly. Crawling on West Sunset Blvd into Bel Air.
DSCN7623 DSCN7624 DSCN7625 DSCN7626
West Sunset Blvd is virtually a standstill parking lot close to 6PM. Everyone idling and polluting in their ICE cars. Insane. Everyone should be driving EVs. eBox Data Display upon arriving at the Bel Air home of Lawrence Bender hosting the RAN.org event. Note 31.4 miles traveled at only 189 whr/mi and 16.4 amp hours of capacity consumed.

New display controller wheel/knob. New ACP data log display housing and Drive-Neutral-Reverse selector. The D-N-R LEDs are more visibly red (backlit and spaced further away). The selector switch appears much more robust.

Richard Kelly and his wife Kelli Kelly. Richard owns a very exclusive S10 EV (only a handful were ever made I believe with EV1 drivetrains). Chelsea Sexton, David Freeman, Howard Stein, and Linda Nicholes. Chelsea Sexton, David Freeman, Stefano Paris, Kelli and Richard Kelly, and Howard Stein. Howard and Linda. Future eBox owners?

Kelli, Richard, Linda, and Howard. Linda, Stefano, and Alexandra. Daryl Hannah goes for a ride in the eBox after the RAN.org event. Data display prior to heading home and after taking a spin with Daryl Hannah, Kelly, and another interested gentleman (Tom).

Data display upon arriving home. 63.2 miles total roundtrip, 49.6 amphours consumed, and 268 whr/mi. The trip home is uphill and not worrying about range I drove more sveltly. Main Data display. Display screen #2.
DSCN7671 DSCN7672 DSCN7674 DSCN7677
Voltage and temperature data display screen #3. Menu display. Battery parameters screen. Since there is no rush I reset the charge line current to 30amps.

Charging for the trip back tomorrow morning.

Saturday 2007.05.12 - Returning the eBox to AC Propulsion
DSCN7684 DSCN7685 DSCN7686 DSCN7687
eBox fully charged and ready for the drive to ACP in San Dimas. Data display prior to taking off. Data display boot screen and AC Propulsion logo. For fun I pulled into the Shell Gas Station to take this shot of the eBox flaunting itself besides the rising gas prices sign.
DSCN7688 DSCN7689 DSCN7690 DSCN7691
eBox arrives at AC Propulsion. Some more fun AC Propulsion eBox pix.. Data display upon arrival at ACP. Drive was done with air conditioning running and with the higher freeway speeds. Pretty reasonable 278 whr/mi considering minimal concern for trying to conserve amphours.
DSCN7694
Adding the 300 miles driven during the last eBox loan, a couple of miles from the First Peek eBox demo last August, and these 180.5 miles, I have had the privilege to log approximately 480 eBox EV miles to date!!!
