If you've ever been to Europe during the past decade (specifically Italy), you would have noticed the phenomena of the MaxiScooter. With the increased congestion and inability to park an automobile in town centers, one of the more convenient ways of getting around quickly is on 2 wheels. When the distances to be traveled are longer (city to city commute) the MaxiScooter definitely shines. MaxiScooters really are motorcycles disgused as scooters. In my opinion the best performance MaxiScooter I've seen is the Yamaha TMAX-500 which has been in production since the year 2000. While immensely popular in Europe and all over the world, Yamaha USA has not brought this amazing gem to North America. I've called Yamaha USA Customer Relations several times since 2004 requesting they bring over their phenomenal TMAX-500 but year after year Yamaha denies the USA market access to their best in class TMAX-500 MaxiScooter.

A few years back the TMAX adopted dual front disc brakes, ABS, and has a top speed of 100 mph. Below are some pictures and video of the new 2008 Yamaha TMAX-500. With gas prices on the rise and increased taffic and congestion issues especially in some areas like Los Angeles, the prospect of commuting and being able to easily park a Yamaha TMAX-500 is very appealing. If you're reading this Yamaha, please bring over your fabulous TMAX-500! Even more ideal would be bringing over a 60-75kW plug-in Electric Lithium battery powered eTMAX with Vectrix DAaRT (Decelerating, Accelerating, and Regenerative Throttle) technology.
