Just got in from the Saturday CRXPO 98 put on by Ted Gutierrez. Andy from the CRX Org also made it out from Phoenix Arizona...and was instrumental in keeping things running smoothly...Thanks to BOTH of you!
I don't have the exact number...but I think we had 52 (count em!) CRXs!
I convoyed up from SoCal with a couple of other CRXs...good 6 hour drive on a Friday night.
This event started at 8am at Grant Park...beautiful secluded place...way to go Ted! QUIMBY road leading up to the park is a nice windy almost single lane road...thanks goes to Rodger Boles for pointing out this shortcut to the park! The view of the bay area/San Jose is amazing from this road...both going up and down it...especially with single file CRXs all in tow!;)
The morning consisted of taking over a strip of parking area...lining up all the CRXs...last minute detailing...mine stayed remarkably clean after 500+mile trip...I just re-windexed the front windshield.
We signed in...and were given 8.5 x 11 sheets that allowed us to write CRX specific info about our cars...and leave in/on the windshield.
We got to vote on several categories along with a page of technical CRX related questions. I got all but 2 I believe...good questions!
Prizes were given away for the various categories...and winner of the CRX trivia contest...there was even a nerf soccer ball toss through 8"+ hole representing the EXHAUST of a CRX...all painted on a sheet of plywood...actually turned out to be rather difficult...but someone finaly made it in! Guess most of us were tweaking on cars in High School rather than playing baseball;)
At around 2ish or so...we assembled the CRXs...for the drive...Andy and Ted led this effort...arranging all the RED, White, Yellow, Tahitian Green (qty 4 of which I was one), silver, and black taking up the end...amazing sight...awesome!
Lots of video and pics were taken by all...we proceeded down QUIMBY road in single file...super cool...hooked up at a CHEVRON station...taking over another large area of a parking lot...and picking up CRXs (non CRXPO CRXs) on the road in our convoy.
After passing out T-shirts/keychains...Ted led us on a cruise on "Miata road"...very nice hills, single-track, etc... more good photo opportunities...
After this...we proceeded on to the highway...for a rendevouz at a pizza place. It got pretty exciting here...we had a good safe meet...nice slow pace...but on the freeway...10+ CRXs (turbo/hybrids, etc..) took off like a swarm of bees...soon we had most of the CRX pack fully taking over the freeway traveling at a good clip...with the midnight blue CRX zooming at amazing speeds catching all on videotape.
Tomorrow several are going to go autocrossing at Candlestick park I believe.
Anyway,...very enjoyable time...very nice to finally meet all the active CRX people who I only knew by name.
Let's try for at least 100 CRXs for CRXPO 99!..as CRXPO 98 doubled the attendance from CRXPO 97 of only 22 CRXs.
We even got cool CRXPO 98 stickers donated graciously by MECCA Graphics...awesome...most of us planted these on the quarter glass just behind the driver door at the base (on the black)...although many other creative placements were noted.
Need to get back to my PCMIA card reader to download the someodd 100 pictures I took...
Long live the CRX!...one of the greatest automobiles of all time!
Thanks to all those that made this possible...and to all who attended.

Turbos, SCs, B16, B18s, D16s, ZCs, DXs, HFs, 1st gens, 2nd gens, and plenty of cool people to show them off! Everybody was really enthusiastic about their cars and were proud to show them off.
TALK ABOUT EXHAUST! If you didn't have exhaust, you were a rare one!
I was up all night then all day, so I was kinda whipped (and burnt, literally) so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to, but driving back it all came back to me and I realized just how unbelievably fun that meet was!
the twisty roads where everybody bunches up and we have to compete with bikers, LETS DO THE FREEWAY RACE AGAIN!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS BAAAAAD! Everybody roasted away from the onramp after the Miata drive and went instantly to 90 MPH. Weaving through and blowing past slower traffic (the people were only going 80!) at 90 MPH, then executing 4 lane changes sequencially, then slamming on the brakes, then dumping it and screaming up to 90 again. People were filming out the windows (GREAT FOOTAGE!!!!!), screaming past each other at breakneck speeds on crappy pavement (bouncy little cars, aren't they?) and our exhausts wailed the whole time! WE WERE A SWARM OF BUMBLE BEES!!!!
Thanks gota go out to Andy, Ted, Randy, Ly Ly, and all the sponsors! THANKS GUYS!!!! GREAT JOB!
And to all who did not make it, you missed one hell of a 20 mile road race through bay area traffic on Hwy 680. Good thing nobody got a ticket or in an accident.....100 MPH plus.....with 50 CRX's......at the same time.
