MacWorld 2001 MacWorld 2001

I attended my very first MacWorld in San Francisco at the Moscone Convention Center on Tuesday, January 9, 2001. "IDG World Expo and Apple® announced that a record of over 93,000 people attended the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco last week, making it the largest gathering of Mac® fans in the US ever." To insure I would get a seat during the Apple Keynote address by Steve Jobs I woke up at 3:45 AM to arrive in front of the Moscone Convention center at 4:25 AM along with my coworker Graham. It turns out we were among 5 diehard Mac Evangelists that had woken up early to be first in line for the Keynote address. Soon afterwards others joined in until there was a line around the block.

San Francisco TV Channel 5 was out with a film crew at 4:30 AM and filmed several of the first people in line. They were asking the standard question: "What do you think about Apple's viability considering its current stock price, yada yada yada." I was filmed and interviewed while sitting in line working on my PowerBook G3 connected wirelessly to one of the many Apple Moscone AirPort wireless networks. I evangelized the innovative genius of Apple and later heard my interview segment played on the morning news.

Steve Jobs' Keynote address was amazing! It was like being at a rock concert with 5000+ people in attendance. The speech was broadcast via Quicktime streaming to the Internet in realtime. Until Apple removes the link, click here to view the entire Steve Jobs' Keynote address.

Below are pictures from MacWorld 2001 (mostly from the Keynote address). I spent the entire 4 days (Tuesday-Thursday) attending MacWorld conferences and trying my best to get a few hours to visit the many vendor booths in the exhibit halls. It was non stop excitement!
